BANGALORE: With just two weeks left for the launch of the much-awaited Bangalore metro rail, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Home, Transport and Bangalore Urban District in-charge Minister R Ashok and Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials are all set to work in night shifts to ensure smooth operation. The chief minister recently announced that the metro will roll on October 20. In the first phase of metro, commuters can hop on to metro rail from Byapanahalli to M G Road.And the Palike wants to hear no complaints from the State Government as it is a big event for the city.Union Minister for Urban Development Kamal Nath is scheduled to be the chief guest.While BBMP Engineer-in- Chief B T Ramesh, will inspect work during the night starting from Tuesday to October 19, Minister Ashok clock his “night duty” on October 15 and Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will do his on October 17.Palike has deployed 100 men to monitor that nothing mars the beauty on either side of the metro track, beneath the metro flyover and the footpaths, said Ramesh.They will work between 10pm and 6am to limit hampering traffic movement.“On many stretches, a few ornamental curb stones have fallen down.Our people will complete the repair work before the launch,” he said and added that junior officers will monitor the work.The chief minister has also given instructions to clear all illegal hoardings or flexbanners on display in the vicinity.BBMP Chief Engineer (East zone) Krishna Swamy, under whose jurisdiction the stretch from M G Road to Byappanahalli Metro Station comes under, said that they were informed to check and clear any debris and drain leaks.“Every night after the Dasara, one of our junior officers, including executive engineer or assistant executive engineer, will be on night shift,” he said.
