THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an effort to sensitise the public on the hazards faced by the fishermen community in high seas, the community members and the leaders of various political outfits and fishworkers forums would join hands to form a human chain on April 28 in the coastal areas of the state.The main aim of the programme is to inform the government of various demands such as revoking the high-alert issued in Arabian sea, setting ship travel limit as 60 nautical miles from the coast, enhancing various security programmes which were created for the safety of fishermen community,instituting ‘Jagratha Samithi’ in the coastal areas, providing compensation to those who were killed in ship collision and the firing mishap and setting up of an expert committee to look after the cases related to the fishermen.T Peter, president of the Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation and the convenor of the district coordination committee for the programme said that despite the recent issues involved with Italian Marines, the fishermen who venture into the deep sea were still facing threats from big ships. A three-day vehicle publicity rally would be taken out in the district on April 20,21 and 22.
