Probe into the Gurdaspur attack reveal that the terrorists are likely to have an Afghanistan link. The night vision devices which were found on a railway track near Gurdaspur had US government markings on them. US troops lost many such devices in Afghanistan.
The night vision devices that have been found may have been smuggled from Afghanistan with the help of terror modules there. It is also being said that the coordinates of the attack site were pre-fed into the GPS devices used by the 3 terrorists on the July 21, 2015.
Investigations have also revealed that the terrorists crossed into India between the July 26 to July 27. GPS data recovered shows the terrorists came from Tash in Pakistan's Shakargarh area. After crossing Ravi river they sneaked into Punjab before reaching Talwandi and planted five IEDs at Talwandi on the Amritsar-Pathankot railway line.
CCTV footage of 4:55 AM on Monday also showed the three heavily armed Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists walking on a road towards an eatery. The terrorists killed seven people including one Superintendent of Police Baljeet Singh and three home guards before all of them were eliminated.
11 unused bombs had been recovered. Three AK-47 rifles, 17 magazines, 55 cartridges, one Rocket launcher, three hand grenades, bullet proof jackets, night vision device and heap of unused bullets were recovered from the site of the encounter, Punjab Police chief Sumedh Singh Saini said.
Meanwhile, Border Security Force (BSF) Director General DK Pathak is likely to visit border area of Punjab's Gurdaspur district along the International Border (IB) with Pakistan on Wednesday and review the security setup there in the wake of the terrorist attack.
Official sources said senior commanders of BSF Punjab Frontier have been informed about the visit and as per the plan, the DG will visit forward locations in that area including border posts falling under Gurdaspur.
