Shimla: Several parts of Himachal Pradesh were lashed by heavy rains today triggering landslides which caused damage to property even as a high alert has been sounded with the major rivers flowing above the danger mark.
Five houses were damaged in Shimla and Kullu districts while a retaining wall caved in near central school here.
Two persons sustained injuries and two cars were damaged when an uprooted tree fell on them near IGMC hospital here. Heavy monsoon rains triggered landslides in Shimla and Kullu districts damaging half a dozen houses and uprooting trees.
The swollen Beas and Parbati rivers are flowing above the danger mark and a high alert has been sounded cautioning people to refrain from going near the river banks. The gushing waters entered some houses in Sainj in Kullu district and caused massive soil erosion increasing the silt level in reservoirs of hydropower projects in Shimla district.
Chail and Kahu recorded 61 mm and 55 mm of rains while state capital Shimla received 46 mm rains followed by Palampur 42 mm, Baldwana 40 mm, Gohar 28 mm, Berthin 25 mm, Hamirpur and Dharamshala 23 mm and Sundernagar and Jubbarhatti 20 mm.
The local Meteorological office has predicted rains and thundershowers at many places in mid and lower hills over next seven days and warned of heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in lower and mid hills on July 9 and 10.
There was no significant change in maximum temperatures and Una was hottest during the day with a high of 34.2 degrees followed by Bhunter 32.6 degrees, Sundernagar 29.8 degrees, Solan 28.5 degrees, Nahan 27.4 degrees, Dharamshala 27.2 degrees, Manali 24.2 degrees, Kalpa 23.4 degrees and Shimla
22.1 degrees C.
The minimum temperatures rose by one to two degree in tribal areas and Keylong and Kalpa in Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts recorded a low of 16.3 degrees and 14 degrees while Dalhousie, Manali and Shimla recorded minimum temperatures at 13 degrees, 13.6 degrees and 16.4 degrees C.
Sundernagar was the warmest with minimum temperature at 21.8 degrees followed by Una 21 degrees, Nahan 20.2 degrees and Bhuntar 20 degrees C.
