'Jab Tak Hai Jaan': The insanely viral 'shayari'
Everyone's talking about Aditya Chopra's beautiful tribute to fidelity and romance for 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'.

New Delhi: It has finally happened. Yash Chopra has managed to bring out the hidden poet in Aditya Chopra with a beautiful tribute to fidelity and romance for the promotional videos of his next directorial venture with Shah Rukh Khan - 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. Khan, who translated the shayari into English, kicked off a viral campaign by asking his fans across the world to translate the poem into their native languages.

The poetry offers a rare glimpse into the psyche of the reclusive Chopra, who is known to fiercely guard his privacy. The romantic 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' poetry also lends the title to the film. It was easy to believe that lyricist Gulzar, who has written the songs for the film, wrote the poem. So it was a surprise for the fans when the official YouTube channel of the film credited Chopra with the poetry. Khan posted on Twitter the English translation of it.

Fans of Khan translated the poem in Turkish, Italian, Japanese, Yiddish German, Persian, French and among others. The trailer has got 2.93 million views on YouTube and a strong buzz is going for the film which stars apart from Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. In many ways Khan's make-up is reminiscent of the bearded, intense look of his 'Chak De India' protagonist Kabir Khan.

He plays an army officer in the film, romancing two radically different women. It bears the hallmark of a Yash Chopra film. Here's the poem:

Teri aankhon ki namkeen mastiyaan

Teri hansi ki beparwaah gustakhiyaan

Teri zulfon ki lehrati angdaiyaan

Nahi bhoolunga main

Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan

Tera haath se haath chhodna

Tera saayon se rukh modna

Tera palat ke phir na dekhna

Nahin maaf karunga main,

Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..

Baarishon mein bedhadak tere nachne se

Baat baat pe tere bewajah ruthne se

Choti choti teri bachkaani badmashiyon se

Mohabbat karoonga main

Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..

Tere jhoothe kasme vaadon se

Tere jalte sulagte khaawo se

Teri beraham duaon se

Nafrat karoonga main

Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..

Here is Khan's version of the song:

Your eyes, mischievous and saline,

You laugh, an airy insolence

Your hair undone in waves divine,

I will not forget your memory rife,

Until I breathe this life,

Until I breathe this life,

Your hand slipping from mine,

Your shadow turning its gaze,

Your walk away from me,

The turn of empty days,

I will not forget your memory rife,

Until I breathe this life,

Until I breathe this life..

Your dancing heedless in the rain,

Your gentle furies raging,

Over little things, in vain,

Your childish naughty ways,

I will love you, through my days,

Until I breathe this life,

Until I breathe this life..

Your promises lie torn,

The torment of my thoughts,

Seething flames that mourn,

The ashes of my heart,

Your brutal prayers have wrought,

I will always scorn, this burning strife,

Until I breathe this life,

Until I breathe this life..
