New Delhi: The judicial custody of JNU students, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya have been extended by 2 weeks. Umar Khalid, who is still in judicial custody in a sedition case, has filed for bail.
Sources told CNN-IBN that the Special Cell of Delhi police has seized Umar and Anirban's laptops. Police got hold of the laptops to access conversations between the two students a day before the controversial February 9 event during which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
JNU Student's Union President Kanhaiya Kumar said he has received a showcause notice but there was no mention.
Earlier on Monday night, a high-level committee of JNU had recommended rustication of Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and two other students for their alleged role in a controversial event in February at which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
Sources, however, said a decision on the recommendation by the panel will be taken by Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar and Chief Proctor A Dimri after a thorough scrutiny of the suggestions. of rustication in it.
