TRIPUNITHURA: This is the fifth term for K Babu from the Tripunithura Assembly constituency. Over the past twenty years, the MLA has virtually changed the face of the royal town through his initiatives. This time Babu has got the ministerial berth and sources indicate that he may get the Excise portfolio.
T K Ramakrishnan, V Vishwanatha Menon and K G R Kartha, who represented Tripunithura had been ministers earlier. Babu started his political career as an MLA from Tripunithura in 1991. From that day onwards he became an integral part of the constituency. "After winning the elections, I became a part of the constituency and the people here have accepted me as their nextdoor neighbour," Babu said while readying for his constituency tour. "The secret behind my consecutive victories is the sincere approach towards people's problems," he says.
When a voter approaches me for help, I will first go through the merit of the case and I will promise my help only if am able to do that. If it is not a matter which comes under my control then I will suggest a proper channel to get the problem solved, he said. It may be this sincere approach that enabled me to represent Tripunithura for five consecutive terms, Babu says."Though he is keen to look after the family matters and is willing to spend much time with us, I never try to bother him, said his wife Geetha Babu. Incidentally, Geetha is the daughter of former minister K I Velayudhan. I know his widespread public relation and his close attachment with the voters. So I try my level best to manage household matters without disturbing him, Geetha said. Babu's family includes wife Geetha Babu, daughters Athira, her husband Rajeesh and youngest daughter Aiswarya, who is working in Bangalore. "There will not be any change in my style of functioning even after becoming a minister. The people of Tripunithura can approach me any time any where, says Babu in his inimitable style.
