The Kolkata police has rejected the proposal of the Air Force to carry out joint investigations into the hit-and-run case in which IAF Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud was killed after being mowed down by an Audi car.
The investigators have informed the Defence establishment that they would only share partial evidence with them.
However, the police have agreed to include an Air Force officer in the team who would remain updated on the developments in the investigations.
Trinamool Congress leader Mohammed Sohrab's son Sambia has been charged with murder and criminal conspiracy for allegedly mowing down the IAF officer. He was allegedly behind the wheel when his Audi SUV ran over 21-year-old Gaud at Kolkata's red road area.
After mowing down the IAF officer, Sambia fled from the scene and was on the run for the next three days. He has been sent to 14 days police custody.
Sambia's friend Johnny who was with him before the incident took place claimed, "That day we all we were drinking. There were four cars: Swift, Skoda, Audi and Fortuner. Everyone told Sambia that he had a drink too much and so he must leave his car here, and leave but he did not listen to anyone. Sambia fought with Sanu (another friend) when he tried to stop him and slapped him a couple of times saying don't bother me. He overtook us and went off," he claimed.
