TIRUNELVELI: The expert panel set up by the State government inspected the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project on Saturday.The team is expected to meet anti-nuclear plant protesters on Sunday afternoon.The panel, which arrived in Tirunelveli on Saturday, held discussions with  Tirunelveli collector R Selvaraj. DRO Uma Maheswari was also present during the meeting which lasted for nearly an hour. Emerging from the meeting, convener of the panel S Iniyan told reporters that the committee would proceed based on the guidance of the district administration. Answering a question, Iniyan said that there was no specific time-frame for the panel to complete its mission. However, he said that the team would try to finish the task as early as possible.Regarding the ongoing protests at Idinathakarai, he said the issue was not discussed at the meeting. Selvaraj said most members from the protest committee would participate in the meeting on Sunday. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had constituted a four-member expert panel, comprising former Atomic Energy Commission chief M R Srinivasan, Prof S Iniyan and Prof D Arulvoli from Anna University, from the Energy Studies Institute and Physics department respectively, and former IAS officer L N Vijayaraghavan, to check the safety features of the nuclear power project and to ascertain the views of locals.
