New Delhi: Manpreet Singh proved no match for European champion Oleksander Usyk and lost his heavy weight (91kg) opener against the Ukrainian to crash out of the World Boxing Championships in Milan, Italy.

Manpreet, who got a bye in the first round, went down 2-16 in the lop-sided bout in which Usyk bobbed and ducked his way to victory late on Sunday night.

The Indian trailed 1-3 in the opening round and couldn't recover from the poor start.

Usyk extended his lead 5-2 at the end of the second round before going for an all-out attack in the final three minutes to blank the Indian 8-0.

Manpreet is the sixth Indian to crash out of the prestigious event.

Earlier in the day, Olympian Dinesh Kumar out-punched Czech Republic's Vladimir Reznicek in his light heavy weight (81kg) opening bout to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the Championships.

The 22-year-old World Cup bronze medallist, who got a bye in the first round, dominated the bout from start to finish to register a convincing 15-7 triumph.

Dinesh Kumar relied on straight jabs and left upper-cuts to do most of the scoring. He opened a 7-2 lead in the first round and went on to extend it to 12-5 in the second.

"Dinesh boxed really well. He was quick on his feet and landed some very accurate straight punches and upper-cuts," national coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu said while speaking on phone from Milan. "He put up a very clinical performance," he added.

Dinesh took it easy in the third round finishing it 3-2.
