New Delhi: Mythological films and television shows are nothing new to the Indian audiences. They have seen the actors play Gods on screen as divine deities but never has any actor received such tremendous craze and adulation the way Mohit Raina has by playing Lord Shiva in the show 'Devon Ke Dev- Mahadev'. The actor has taken the bar a little up by flaunting his six-pack abs and is touted as the hottest God on-screen.
Mohit Raina, who began his career as a model, went onto participate in Grasim Mr. India contest in 2006 and later returned to television with shows like 'Chehra', 'Bandini' and 'Ganga Kii Dheej'. Despite playing the lead in these television shows, Raina could not get much recognition until he was given the role of Lord Shiva in 2011 show 'Devon Ke Dev- Mahadev'.
And, since then there has been no looking back for Raina who has given an on screen god a new edge. He is the only actor who can make a God look much more than just a divine being. The women of the country have gone crazy for the actor who is currently a sex symbol for many. Such has been the craze that there has been news that Priyanka Chopra's aunt was apparently interested to extend marriage proposal to Raina for the actress.
However, in an earlier interview to IANS, Raina said, "There is no real-life Parvati in my life. There has been talk of my linkups. But seriously, there is no time. All I do is shoot and go to the gym. My mother lives with me after my father passed away two years ago. A real-life Parvati would demand time and attention. I can't give her time, I am sure in the future I will have a Parvati in my life. And the Ganesh and Kartik (the kids) will follow. It's not easy being god. But it's exhilarating."
The actor has redefined the image of an on screen God. IANS quoted Raina as saying, "I guess people are looking at me in a way they've never looked at screen gods before. The kind of attention I get is way beyond my comprehension. I know they're reacting to Shiva Bhagwan and not to Mohit Raina. But still the attention is disconcerting. People love me. I couldn't ask for more."
And, the craze for the god is not just restricted to teenage girls. Even kids and old people are in awe of the actor. "People have gotten to know I visit the gym every day. They are there to meet me every day. And there's no particular age. I have seven-year old girls, 57-year old aunties and 85-year old grandparents desirous of a darshan. The other day 70-plus ladies from Nagpur showed up at the gym with roses. They didn't know what else to gift me. I was touched," he told IANS.
