The movie 'Midnight's Children' is an adaptation of Salman Rushdies's novel of the same title. The movie is directed by Indo-Canadian film maker Deepa Mehta who is known for her critically acclaimed movies like Fire ((1996), Water (2005) and Earth (1998).

The story-line of the film 'Midnight's Children' is based on India's transition from the colonial period to the rise of independent India. The film features veteran actors like Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher, Rahul Bose, and a pivotal role is played by Tamil actress Shreya Saran who is potrayed as a Rajasthani dancer, blessed with special powers.

This role demanded the actress to live in a hut in order to make the character look real to the audience.

According to the sources close to the actor, Shreya actually stayed in a hut for a fortnight in order to perform her role better. The actress admitted that staying in a hut for her character has brought her close to the harsh realities of life that she never could have realised otherwise.
