Missing Body of Delhi Top Cop's Son Found in Haryana Canal; Key Accused Arrested
The deceased had been missing since January 22, when he had gone to attend a wedding function with the accused (his friends) -- Vikas & Abhishek

Delhi Police on Sunday found the body of ACP Yashpal Singh’s son, Lakshya Chauhan, from a canal near Haryana’s Samalkha area. Chauhan had been missing since January 22. On the same day, cops also arrested the main accused — Vikas Bhardwaj — and recovered the car that he had fled in.

The 26-year-old practicing advocate had gone to Sonipat along with his two friends, Vikas Bhardwaj and Abhishek, on January 22.

While Abhishek was an acquaintance of Chauhan, Bhardwaj was working as a clerk for another laywer at Tis Hazari court, where the deceased also practiced.

However, when Chauhan did not return home till January 23, his father — Yashpal Singh — ACP (Operations) Outer Delhi, lodged a missing person complaint. Following this, a search operation was launched.

While the investigation was underway, police suspected foul play in his disappearance and turned the missing complaint into an abduction FIR.

On January 26, the first arrest was made in the case. Police picked up the 19-year-old Abhishek from his house near Narela for questioning.

Based on his statement, Abhishek’s arrest was made and additional charges of Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections of 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) were noted in the abduction FIR.

Abhishek had told the police that Bhardwaj called him to attend a wedding in Sonipat with him and Chauhan on January 22.

Bhardwaj then conspired with Abhishek to kill Chauhan over a long-standing financial dispute. He had told the latter about how Chauhan had borrowed some money from him but was not returning it.

After this, Chauhan picked up the two from Rohini and went to the marriage function. On the way back home, when they stopped at Munak Canal, Bhardwaj and Abhishek pushed the 26-year-old into the canal and fled in his car.

Following a week-long search operation, Chauhan’s body has been recovered. Police said that further investigation into the matter is underway.
