A horrific incident of alleged assault on a tribal man was reported in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul, the second such incident that came to light this week in the district. The victim, who reportedly runs a tea shop, was stripped, thrashed and hung upside down from the roof.
According to an NDTV report, the accused allegedly tried to extort money from the tribal man while he was working in the shop that he runs with his father. The victim told the police that the attackers kept asking him to ‘cut money’ while he was being beaten.
The incident allegedly took place in November last year, but the victim only reported this week due to fear of the accused as they had a ‘criminal background.’
The video of the incident, where the victim can be seen hanging upside down from the roof and mercilessly beaten with sticks and belts, went viral on social media.
“They stripped me, tied me up, and then beat me with sticks, belts and slippers. I don’t know why I was being beaten, but they demanded money for the tea shop that I run with my father,” the victim told the publication.
Another Tribal Man Beaten, Forced to Pose like ‘Murga’ in MP
In another such incident reported this week, a tribal man was assaulted and was forced to pose like a “murga” in Betul. The accused was identified as Chanchal Rajput, an alleged member of the Bajrang Dal, who used casteist slurs on the victim.
Condemning the incident, MP Congress president Jitu Patwari demanded Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s resignation and that he hand over the home portfolio, currently held by the CM, to someone who can decisively control crime in MP.
In another incident, a tribal youth was allegedly beaten up by a group of persons here on February 7 over an old enmity, police said in a release.
