CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced a panel of experts to analyse the syllabus and textbooks for students in the State under the Uniform System of School Education, complying with a Supreme Court order on the issue.Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi will head the nine-member panel. Former director of academics with the Central Board of Secondary Education G Balasubramanian and former principal of Lady Andal Matriculation School Vijayalakshmi Srinivasan will be the State representatives.Founder-secretary of DAV Schools group C Jayadev and dean and director of Padma Seshadri group of schools Dr (Mrs) Y G Parthasarathy will be the educationists on the panel.Prof PK Tripathi and Prof Anil Sethi of the NCERT and the State secretary of School Education Department will be the members and the Director of School Education will be the member-secretary in the committee.Announcing the panel in an official release here, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said the panel would submit its report to the Madras High Court before July 6 as mandated by the Supreme Court.The previous DMK regime enacted the Uniform System of School Education Act, better know as Samacheer Kalvi, last year ending four different streams of education — Matriculation, Anglo-Indian, Oriental and State Board — in Tamil Nadu.Samacheer Kalvi was implemented for Class I and VI from the last academic year and it was decided to introduce the new system to other classes from the next year.As soon as the AIADMK assumed office, a Bill was passed to postpone the implementation of the USE by making amendments to the principal act and it was announced that a thorough review would be made before implementing the scheme.
