Satypal Singh's statement led to an outrage but he claimed that his comments were not presented correctly.

Mumbai: At a time when the nation stands united against rising crimes against women across the country, the insensitive attitude of a chosen few has received a lot of flak. After a series of statements made by politicians and self-styled godmen, the recent comment made by Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh has shocked the country.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh's controversial statement on sex education and crimes against women has come under severe criticism. Satyapal Singh had on Monday said that sex education would only make matters worse as far as crime against women is concerned as there is a higher rate of such crimes in countries which have sex education in their curriculum. The police officer said that he was in favour of moral education at all levels.

Singh's statement led to an outrage but he claimed that his comments were not presented correctly. He said that his statement was based on a survey carried out in America.

Union Information and Broadcast Minister Manish Tewari called Singh's statement as absurd and advised that he should avoid giving such statements. BJP spokesperson Balbir Punj also criticised his statements and blamed to police for increasing incidents of crimes against women.

On other hand NCW Chairperson Mamta Sharma is in favour of sex education after class 10 and said that Singh's statement was his personal opinion.
