PALAKKAD: The district recorded temperatures between 38 and 40 degree Celsius the whole last week, touching 40 five times during the last fortnight.A few cases of sunburn were also reported, including three on Saturday. The Integrated Rural Technology Centre (IRTC) in Mundur recorded a temperature of 39.5 degrees on Friday and Saturday.A tipper vehicle driver, Muralidharan, 38, of Thanikalveetil in Thadukkassery, experienced sunburns on Saturday. He availed first aid at the Keralassery primary health centre. Abbas, 31, of Padinjarekara, and Puthur Kizhakethil Rafeeq, 28, in Lakkidi-Perur, also suffered sunburns when they went fishing in Bharathapuzha.District Medical Officer Venugopal said no fresh cases of sunburns were reported on Sunday. Directions have been given to employers to reschedule work hours of manual labourers as a preventive measure. The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has already rescheduled its work hours. There are strict orders that no outdoor work should be done between 12 noon and 3 pm.
