THENI: Parents of an engineer, who is one among the many taken as hostage by Somalian pirates, have sub mitted a petition to the District Collector here on Sunday, urging the government to take steps to release their son. M Udhayaram (27) of Thaadicherry was working as an engineer at “Fairchem Bogey”, a ship with “Anglo Eastern Private limited”, an American company. He was on board the ship carrying oil and chemical products, when it was taken hostage by Somali pirates near Salalah Port at Oman.Udhayaram’s parents - Maharajan and Shanti, living at Thaadicherry - were informed of this on Saturday. On failing to receive any news about his whereabouts, the couple submitted the petition seeking government’s help to rescue their son.
