HYDERABAD: A 54-year-old businessman died on the spot and his wife was hospitalised with serious injuries after a commando vehicle belonging to the police department hit them hard on Monday.The accident took place at Idgha in Begumpet area of the city. According to police, when the wife and husband were travelling on the bike, a commando vehicle belonging to the police department hit them head on.The deceased has been identified as Satpal Singh, a businessman and a resident of Begum Bazaar, while his wife Gurpreet Kaur has been hospitalised with serious injuries.Around 12.30 p.m.on Monday, when Satpal Singh and his wife Gurupreet Kaur were returning home after attending a function at Green Lands, the accident took place.As Satpal Singh’s vehicle reached the Idgha, a commando vehicle which was coming in the opposite direction hit them.In the accident, Satpal Singh died on the spot and his wife received major injuries,’’ said S Santosham, sub inspector, Begumpet.Soon after the accident, police were alerted by passersby. Police rushed to the spot and shifted Gurupreet to a nearby hospital. Her condition is said to be serious. Police arrested Srinivas, driver of the commando vehicle and have booked cases against him.
