Kolkata: The Indo-Bangla border is sealed and police begins checks on inter-state movement of vehicles between Assam and West Bengal as the six North Bengal districts go to the polls in the fifth and final phase.

"Talks have been held with the BSF. The international border is being sealed. Checks will also be maintained on inter-state movement of people and vehicles between Assam and West Bengal," State's Chief Electoral Officer Debasish Sen said.

Vigil has also been intensified along Indo-Nepal Border, while 440 companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed in this phase, he said.

Ten companies of the Bihar State Armed Force received for the election have been distributed among all the six districts.

Sen hoped that the fifth and final phase election would be held in free, fair and peaceful manner in North Bengal.

Giving some interesting statistics, the CEO said that the booth at Shrikhola in Darjeeling was the second highest in the country and another at Todatangta in Kalimpong was the most inaccessible.

While Shrikhola is located at an altitude of over 12,000 feet, Todatangta was away from 146 km of the Commission's access centre from where beginning of election is communicated only by waving flags, Sen said.
