Chandigarh: Even as the prime Opposition Congress has been opposing the appointment of Justice Jai Singh Sekhon as the Lokpal, the Punjab government has fixed Friday as the oath taking ceremony for the new incumbent at Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh.
The Congress has been exploring the possibilities of preparing a legal case against the appointment on the basis of the "conflict of interest", party sources said in Chandigarh on Thursday.
The Congress claimed that it will take legal recourse on the issue, saying Justice Sekhon cannot be appointed Lokpal for the conflict of interest since his brother is a minister in the Punjab government and he himself is also related to the chief minister.
In 2011, the Congress had questioned and challenged the appointment of Harish Rai Dhanda, an Akali leader and MLA, as the Chairman of the Punjab Public Service Commission and succeeded in getting a High Court order against it.
