An overcrowded bus, carrying 90 passengers, was on its way to Patna from Saharsa when the accident occurred.

Purnia (Bihar): Eight persons were killed and 30 others injured when an overcrowded bus overturned at Janakinagar in Purnia district, police said Monday.

The bus, carrying 90 passengers, was on its way to Patna from Saharsa when the accident occurred late Sunday night, Senior Superintendent of Police N H Khan said.

Of the injured, ten were admitted to a government hospital here and their condition was stated to be serious. The others received first-aid at hospitals and private clinics near the accident spot, Khan said.

One killed after truck falls into Chenab river in J&K

In another incident, one person was killed while four others were feared drowned after a truck carrying them skidded off the road and fell into the Chenab river in Kishtwar district 280 kms from Jammu, police said.

The truck carrying six labourers was on its way from Paddar to Kishtwar when the mishap took place at Shasoo, late Sunday night. One of the labourers was rescued, police said, adding a body has been found.

Four persons swept away by the strong currents of the river are yet to be traced, they said, adding that a hunt is on to find them.
