The Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust, best known for charitable activities and social service, is embarking on a new venture.
The Trust is joining hands with the Tourism Department to launch a ‘Social Tourism’ project at the Sai Gramam at Thonnackal, near here, to preserve and popularise the traditional and ethnic art forms of Kerala, many of which are neglected today.
As part of this, Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar visited Sai Gramam on Tuesday, Trust executive director K N Anandakumar said.
Among the arts the Trust is attempting to preserve are Pulluvanpaatu, Paavakoothu, Kakkarissi Natakam, Kalaripayattu, Pulikali, Krishnanattom, Theyyam, Thayambaka, Panchavadyam, Thottampaatu, Kummati, Velakali, Chakyarkoothu and Koodiyattam. Under this project, the proponents of these art forms will be invited with their families to live at Sai Gramam and stage performances for tourists.
‘’The Trust is making an attempt to protect the art forms in their original form. All the requirements of the artists will be taken care of,’’ Anandakumar said in a statement.
