HYDERABAD: The battle of the words did finish off with a dramatic end. The final selection round for Verbattle South, an inter-state debate competition, which was held at the Sundarayaa Vignan Bhavan saw a good response from the students.Six teams which have been zeroed in from Hyderabad for the next round include four teams from Chirec Public School, one team each from Jubilee Hills Public School and P Obul Reddy Public School and the students were from classes 7 to 10 and in the age group of 12 to 16 years.A few topics on which the teams debated in the selection round were, “There is no culture without civic sense”, “Privatization is the root of all economic problems”, “Tolerance is a weakness” and a topic given by PETA “Animals do not have rights like human beings” among others. Deepak Thimaya, supervised the debates and was also the moderator.The next round will be held in Bangalore on January 23, where teams from Hyderabad, Karnataka, Chenna i , Kochi and Pondicherry will compete against each other.The finals of Verbattle South will also be held in Bangalore on January 24.The final winning team will be awarded a cash prize of `1,00,000, the last two finalist teams will get `20,000 each and the best state team will get `5,000 and there is also a prize of `10,000 for the mentor of the winning team.
