The Curriculum Committee for school education, which met here on Tuesday, has decided to conduct a special TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) as K-TET paper IV for language and special teachers in the state.
As of now, three K-TET examinations have been proposed. Those preparing to become teachers in primary section should pass K-TET 1, K-TET 2 for upper- primary teachers and K-TET 3 for high school teachers. The language, sports and special teachers were excluded from these exams. The Curriculum Committee has decided to conduct K-TET 4 until there is a solid training and recruiting programme for them.
The Curriculum Committee has decided to revise the textbooks till standard VIII. It has also decided to undertake a wholesome curriculum revision, setting 2015 as the deadline. Some of the teachers’ organisations, including the KSTA, pointed out that this was an impractical deadline and it was not possible for a complete revision of curriculum in such a short span of time. The decision was then kept for an expert opinion and a sub- committee entrusted with it.
The Curriculum Committee also decided to include traffic and road rules in academic levels in schools. The committee will ponder on how to do this in its coming meetings.
In the absence of Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb, who is the chairman of the Curriculum Committee, General Education Secretary M Sivasankar presided over the meeting.
