New Delhi: Budget airline Spicejet has offered discount upto Rs 1000 to those who do not carry check-in baggage. This discount is only for tickets booked 30 days in advance.
In a press release Spicejet said that hand-Baggage-Only scheme "saves money, saves fuel and saves environment".
"With the launch of new Hand Baggage Only fares, SpiceJet is once again taking the lead by offering a discount for those passengers who carry hand-baggage only. By encouraging travellers to travel light, SpiceJet is helping lower fuel consumption and emissions as well, thereby helping the environment," said the release.
It further said, "The Hand Baggage Only fare will be available on most direct domestic flights (including via flights), with minimum 30 days advance purchase. International and connecting flights are not included."
This comes after the Aviation Ministry rejected a proposal by low-cost airlines to charge for check-in baggage.
Low-cost carriers like AirAsia, Indigo and SpiceJet had approached the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to charge Rs 250 for the first luggage, Rs 500 for the second and Rs 1500 for the third.
