Mumbai: A sessions court on Thursday sentenced Sahira, sister of the prime witness in the Best Bakery case, Zaheera Sheikh, to three months rigorous imprisonment (RI) for giving false evidence.
The court also fined Sahira Sheikh Rs 500 besides the RI. However, Judge Abhay Thipsay granted Sahira bail of Rs 4,000.
The court suspended Sahira's sentence till July 10 as she has moved the Bombay High Court challenging the Best Bakery judgement and remarks passed against her by the judge.
The judge did not award any sentence to Zaheera's brother Nasibullah, saying he would be put under probation in view of his young age.
Earlier, the court found Zaheera's mother guilty on the same charges and sentenced her to three months RI with a Rs 500 fine.
Zaheera's trial on the charges of giving false evidence in Best Bakery case would begin on Friday.
Currently, she is serving one-year jail term in Byculla jail in keeping with the Supreme Court order holding her guilty of contempt.
Delivering the judgement on February 24, the court had issued notices to Zaheera and her family asking them to show cause why they should not be tried for tendering false evidence.
