KOCHI: Three months after its construction began, the rail overbridge (RoB) connecting Mullassery Canal Road and Salim Rajan Road is still having teething troubles. Though most of the land earmarked for the project has been acquired, the project is stuck owing to the difficulties in clearing these areas. The residential areas coming under the project have been vacated but the buildings are yet to be demolished. Yet other areas need to be cleared of trees.Currently, work is in progress next to the KSRTC workshop but authorities concerned said that the project will not be able to move ahead unless the hindrances like the KSRTC workshop are relocated. “But for that, a new workshop has to be built for the KSRTC. Since it is a time-consuming process, the project too has to wait till then,” said an official. The 300-metre long RoB, which has an L-shaped alignment, will have two lanes and will be 10 metres wide. The `37.5-crore project is intended to ease the traffic between the eastern and western parts of the city. The original plan of the project states that it will be completed in 15 months.
