Thrissur Pooram festival starts today with riders on fireworks
Kerala High court had said that fireworks with sound will not be permitted between 6 pm to 6 am during the Thrissur Pooram.

Kerala: A day after Kerala High Court gave conditional nod for Thrissur Pooram, Kerala CM Oommen Chandy on Friday held a meeting with temple managements on safety issues.

Chandy, along with senior ministers and officials, met the authorities of the two main temple boards, Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi and reviewed steps to prevent any untoward incidents.

Earlier, the state government told the court that a complete ban on fireworks is not possible. Then the HC has asked the government to ensure that banned chemicals are not used during the festival. It had also said that fireworks with sound will not be permitted between 6 pm to 6 am during the Thrissur Pooram.

"The temple trust must follow the security guidelines," Chandy had said.

Thrissur district collector V Ratheesan said, "The sample fireworks will be held at 7pm on Friday. We have constituted a squad which will ensure the compliance. More than 2500 forces will be deployed to ensure all fire safety norms."
