TN all-party meet on Cauvery today
Based on the consensus evolved at the meeting, Tamil Nadu is expected to finalise its stand on Cauvery issue.

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi convened all-party meeting in Chennai on Monday to decide the state’s stand on the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Karunanidhi had already announced that the state would move the tribunal to seek clarifications on some points that were not in the state's favour and get them changed.

Karunanidhi is expected to brief the leaders of political parties on the positive and negative aspects of the award with regard to Tamil Nadu at the meeting.

He would also elicit the opinion on the strategy to be adopted on the issue and on moving the tribunal seeking a review of the aspects, which were not in favour of the state.

Based on the consensus evolved at the meeting, the state is expected to finalise its stand.

While the AIADMK and the MDMK wanted the state government to file a petition in the Supreme Court against the award, which they claimed was against the interests of the state, the DMK and its allies like the Congress and Left parties had welcomed the award.

However, PMK, another ally of the DMK, has opposed the award.

The tribunal gave its final verdict on February 5 under which Tamil Nadu will get 192 tmcft of water from Karnataka, which has convened an all-party meet on Februray 24 to finalise its stand on the issue.
