New Delhi: Major Left parties, which had an understanding with the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, said they would extend support to the new government from outside.
"We will soon write a letter to the Tamil Nadu Governor extending support to the DMK to form government," CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat said.
In the same vein, CPI National Secretary D Raja said,"We will support the government."
Asked if the Left would join the DMK-led government, Raja said his party had not considered such a situation but he was clear it would not join the government.
The CPI-M has won nine seats in the Assembly polls and the CPI five.
Welcoming the verdict in Tamil Nadu, Karat said that the people have made the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance victorious. He added that the CPI-M had an electoral understanding with the alliance.
Raja said people have put an end to the autocratic rule of the AIADMK whose performance was dismal as unemployment and poverty had gone up in the state.
He added his party would provide full support and cooperation to new government in Tamil Nadu.
