Two tiffin bombs, suspected to be planted by Maoists to target security forces during upcoming Lok Sabha elections, were found at separate places in the insurgency-hit region of Chhattisgarh, police said on Wednesday.

"A tiffin-bomb of 20 kgs was found on a road under Daundi police station limits of Balod district this afternoon," Superintendent of Police Ramgopal Garg said.

A joint party of Chhattisgarh Armed Force and teams of district force from Balod and Rajnandgaon districts was on a combing exercise along the inter-district border when they located the tiffin box containing an improvised explosive device (IED) placed under a road near Katreli village of the region, about 150 kms from Raipur.

In another operation, a tiffin bomb weighing 5 kgs was recovered under Bayanar police station limits of Kondagaon district last evening, the official said.

"The explosive was allegedly planted by the ultras to attack the polling parties and security personnel during parliamentary polls," Kondagaon Additional Superintendent of Police Surjit Atri said.

A team of district force was on a de-mining exercise in Bayanar region when it recovered the IED placed beneath a road near Mungwal Tirah village.

A detonator, an electric wire and some pencil cells were also seized from the spot, he said.

Security forces are conducting de-mining exercises in several areas of Bastar and its adjoining areas ahead of the elections after being tipped off that Maoists had planted landmines near polling booths and important roads to be used by polling parties to reach their destination.
