BANGALORE: Police said software engineer Sreerag’s failed love story had astonished them. An investigating officer told Express that Sreerag came into contact with Jennifer, (false name provided by the girl), on January 23 this year. She was a telecaller with a private bank and had called him to promote some loan plans. Within a short span, their friendship turned to ‘love’, but the duo had never met. “They were in contact only via email, online chatting and text messages. When Sreerag had asked for her photograph, Jennifer had sent him two photographs of an unknown good-looking girl taken from a social networking site. Following this, Sreerag had become serious about Jennifer. He had sent nearly 6,000 text messages to her and scores of lengthy emails. He had also decided to marry her and had informed his brother about his love. On May 20, she had sent a man’s photograph claiming she was getting married to him . She had told Sreerag that the man was David, who was settled in UK, adding she was also shifting along with him on Wednesday. Investigations show that Sreerag was grief-stricken and had pleaded her to meet him for the last time. But she did not reply. Soon after that, he ended his life,” the police said. His last email to the lady was three pages longSources said the girl had played with Sreerag all along, thinking the affair would not be serious. When she realised his feelings about her, they were much serious than she had anticipated, Jennifer started to avoid him. Once, he had asked her to buy a 3G cellphone to converse through video calls, but she had blatantly refused.Police said, “On Tuesday, at 2.37 am, Sreerag had sent an e-mail from his laptop at home. It is about three pages, and narrates how much he cared for her. He has advised her to live a happy life with David, and has given her tips on how she should take care of herself during pregnancy and what food she should consume to give birth to a healthy baby. He had also suggested a few names for her baby. In the meantime, he had deleted all the contacts and messages from his phone to ensure that police would not track her after his death. After sending the email, he left the house and ended his life.” As part of the investigation, police had summoned Jennifer, a resident of CMH Road, and it is said that she was not disturbed by the incident. Meanwhile, Sreerag’s brother, relatives and friends had gathered at Bowring Hospital mortuary on Wednesday. His parents have still not reached the city. After autopsy, his relatives took the body to Kozhikode to perform last rites. However, they did not blame the girl for Sreerag’s death.
