Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh's deputy CM Dinesh Sharma had to be evacuated, along with more than 200 other guests, from the London hotel where he was staying in after a major gas leak in the middle of the night.
Sharma, who had gone to London for a programme on educational changes in primary and higher education, escaped unhurt and was shifted to another hotel.
In a tweet, Sharma said that he was staying in Amba Hotel on Charing Cross Street, a famous tourist district of London. The gas leak was reported around 3am. Police and fire safety officials quickly evacuated the guests and took over the area, he wrote.

From there, he was taken to a different hotel and then to Washington Mayfair Hotel with the help of Indian Embassy. At the time of gas leak, education ministers of several countries and academicians from 91 countries were also staying in the hotel.
Due to the gas leak, two railway stations and a nightclub near the hotel were also shut. But no damage was reported.
