THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The Public Service Commission has decided to limit the extension of the validity period of rank lists, which ends on May 31, by another three months, though an extension of six months was sought by the government. The decision was taken by the PSC here on Monday."The PSC is of the view that the government had not been able to report the vacancies to the PSC during the three months when the model code of conduct was in force. So, we have decided that the validity period of the rank list can be extended for another three months,’’ PSC Chairman K V Salahuddin told Express. The Cabinet had decided to ask the PSC to extend the validity period of the rank lists which ends on May 31 by six months.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, after the last week’s Cabinet meeting, said that this was necessary as the postings to the vacant slots had been held up owing to the ban on postings which came into effect as part of the election model code of conduct. ‘‘According to the rules, the validity period can be extended for that period when the government could not report the vacancies. The PSC would consider extending the validity period of the rank lists by another three months in case the government faces any difficulty,’’ Salahuddin said.
