Almost every day there are stories on the internet about how a person’s random day changed after they won the lottery. It is a dream of many to one day hit the jackpot and become a millionaire. Generally, one buys a ticket in the city of their residence and wins it in the same city. However, it is rare to hear of an incident where someone buys a ticket in a different city and comes back home a millionaire. This happened to Saidul Sheikh, a resident of Margram, Birbhum in West Bengal.
Saidul Sheikh works as a day labourer. Due to his family’s financial hardship, he works as a railway labourer under a contractor in Barrackpore to support his family. He earned his livelihood while staying in Barrackpore and used to send money home. Often, after finishing his work, he would find himself buying lottery tickets to try his luck. Previously, he had won small amounts like Rs 600 or Rs 1,200 but not more than that.
One fine day, after finishing up his work, he bought another ticket in Barrackpore. However, due to work pressure, he claimed that he forgot to check the ticket that day. Right the next day, he returned to his home in Birbhum. He finally checked the ticket once reaching home and was stunned. He won not a few thousand or lakhs, but Rs 1 crore. Overwhelmed by this, Saidul immediately went to Margram police station asking for protection.
In an interview with Local18, Saidul Sheikh shared, “I had started building a house, but due to a lack of funds, I was worried if I would ever be able to complete it. God has helped me. I also plan to buy some land and arrange my sister’s marriage.” According to the neighbours, Saidul has faced many challenges, financial constraints being one of them. So, they feel that winning Rs 1 crore in the lottery will improve his family’s situation.
