The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 clash between Australia and Sri Lanka in Lucknow saw the game being interrupted twice due to rain. Strong winds even forced a brief halt of play during the first innings and due to the windy conditions, the hoardings at the top of the Ekana Sports City Stadium started to fall off the roof, onto the seats. Fans were subsequently seen running away for safety in a video that has emerged on social media.

As seen in the video, the gust of winds saw the hoardings peel off the roof of the Stadium in Lucknow and fall onto the seats underneath. Fans who were seated below were subsequently seen running away.

Strong wings brought scaffolding and hoardings crashing down at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on Monday, causing a hold-up in the game.

The umpires felt it unsafe to allow Australia to start their reply due to the wind and the threat of more scaffolding coming off at the 50,000-seater stadium, which at the time only had about 3,000 spectators inside.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for 209. They started with an opening stand of 125 before Australia hit back with Adam Zampa returning figures of 4-47.

Sri Lankan openers Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka stitched together a 125-run stand to give the Lankan Lions a brisk start but they suffered a collapse of epic proportions.
