Ali Fazal Says He Didn't Expect Mirzapur To 'Become Too Big', Says 'It Started Behaving Like A Monster'
The first season of Mirzapur series was released over six years ago.

Mirzapur 3 was released last week and had fans glued to their screens. The successful series, featuring Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Tripathi Sharma and Rasika Dugal among others, has had the audience’s love since its debut season, six years ago. However, Ali Fazal recently revealed that they had not anticipated it to be a huge hit.

Ali Fazal told The Indian Express, “We didn’t know this show would work and be a hit. After the release, for a week we thought we had fun shooting this, so it’s okay. But after a week, the show started behaving like a monster of its own. Since then there has been no looking back. It became too big, we didn’t expect it to.”

When asked if he had any apprehensions about the show’s bold content, Ali said, “I didn’t have an apprehension because this stuff has already worked in the West. I had the chance to work in the West, so I have seen all this. We have been watching these shows growing up. The only apprehension for me was that I never entered a gym per se. I am a sports person, so for me to transform into that gym body was irritating.”

Speaking about how Ali wanted to be a sportsperson and not an actor, he shared, “It was when I broke my arm. I was in school, a basketball player. It was a big decision. I went back to the sport after breaking my arm and dislocating my shoulder. I was the team captain. I was in boarding school and we had seasonal sports, so I couldn’t help myself. I again dislocated my shoulder and had to get operated, that is when I was told to make that switch to cultural stuff. That’s how I began acting too. But a part of me wanted to keep that discipline. I carry that with me to date. My entire life changed. I was thinking of playing hockey or basketball for India, but a science guy had to leave that and come to Xaviers and do economics. That moment of switching gave me sleepless nights. It felt like shedding your skin.”

Previously, Ali Fazal, who plays the role of Guddu Pandit in the hit streaming series, spoke about the transformation of his character. The actor said that his character, Guddu, has now become a more strategic and mature leader, and his ability to think fast gives him an edge over his opponents. “Over the past two seasons, Guddu Pandit has undergone a remarkable transformation. Guddu has evolved into a more strategic and mature leader, using his intellect as much as his brawn. His ability to think on his feet and adapt to changing situations has become his defining trait this season,” Ali shared.
