After being teased for many years, the much-awaited Transformers x G.I. Joe crossover movie is finally happening! After featuring as the main antagonist of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Chris Hemsworth is now in talks to star in Paramount Pictures’ untitled crossover film. According to a Deadline report, Hemsworth is yet to seal the deal, upon which the project will be back in business, also marking the actor’s second role in the Hasbro franchise. He played the younger version of Optimus Prime in the animated Transformers One movie.
Presently, details about the Transformer-G.I. Joe movie and Hemsworth’s character have been kept under wraps. Also, further information about the casting is yet to be revealed. The film will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy, while Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment will be executive producers.
A director for the film is not yet confirmed.
Details About The Transformers and G.I. Joe Crossover
The crossover film was teased for the first time in last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and later confirmed at CinemaCon 2024. Along with the announcement, the movie’s release window was also teased, which is believed to be sometime in 2025 or 2026.
Similarly, the end of Rise of the Beats sets the stage for a crossover after Anthony Ramos’ Noah happens to meet a secret government operative named Agent Burke (Michael Kelly). He offers Noah a business card, which reveals that Burke works for G.I. Joes, a special team of commandos.
Earlier in a conversation with ComicBook, Bonaventura said, “We are going to deliver on the promise we made. We’ve talked about it since the beginning of the franchise because the fans have been like, ‘Come on, when are you going to do Joe?!’ The truth of the matter is that there are so many great Transformers characters that we didn’t feel like we needed to rush and do G.I. Joe. But you also want an organic way; otherwise, it feels like a cynical exercise.”
Known for his superhero and action franchises, with Transformers, Hemsworth will enter a new world of action franchises. Loved among his fans for the portrayal of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, the actor was recently seen as Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, a prequel to Fury Road.
