The Academy seems to have accepted the backlash it has received for snubbing Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig in Best Actress and Best Director categories, respectively, at the Oscars 2024. And instead of making bringing about a change, they decided to make fun of themselves. On Tuesday (IST), The Academy released a new video announcing Jimmy Kimmel as the host of Oscars 2024. However, they did it Barbie style! The video, shared on Instagram, begins with Jimmy lost in Barbieland.
He bumps into Kate McKinnon, who is in her weird Barbie avatar, and asked her for directions to Hollywood aka Oscarland. While she draws out a map for him, he fails to follow. Weird Barbie then offers to drop him to the venue but not without some jibes at men, the nominees and even Matt Damon.
Once they land in the Oscarland, America Ferrera appears on the red carpet. She delivers a monologue, a nod to her viral Barbie monologue, to encourage Jimmy Kimmel. However, Jimmy pisses her off by saying, “What you’re saying is hosting the Oscars is harder than being a woman," making things awkward for all.
However, Ryan Gosling comes to his rescue, changing to the subject to the Oscars tradition of having In and Out burgers. He confuses the tradition, assuming that the social media trends call for having the burgers before the Oscars ceremony. However, Jimmy corrects him that it is had after the Oscars and only by those who have won the trophy.
Ryan, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Barbie, throws away the bag and pokes fun at his probable defeat. “That’s not going to happen," he says before adding, “Good thing that Greta has got it in the bag." However, he is informed about Greta’s snub. Ryan seemingly poked fun at his long statement after Greta and Margot’s snub at the Oscars this year. He started screaming and Jimmy joined his scream fest.
The Oscars 2024 promo ends with the narrator saying, “Girls grow into women but not all boys grow into men. Some remain hopelessly stuck in a loop of infantile foolishness. One of them will host the Oscars."

The video has won the internet. “The best Oscars promo i’ve ever seen ," a social media user said. “Epic. Hilarious. SAVAGE! ," added another. “Soooo good ," a third comment read.
The Oscars 2024 ceremony will take place on March 10 (EST/March 11 IST).
