Kriti Sanon and Kajol’s upcoming thriller Do Patti is set to premiere on Netflix on October 25. As part of the ongoing promotions, the film’s latest song, Akhiyaan De Kol, was recently released. This party number is a revamped version of the popular track originally sung by the late Pakistani singer Reshma. While some fans are enjoying the energetic beats and praising Kriti’s dance moves, the remix has faced criticism. Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui labelled it a “sordid ripoff” of the original. The new version is performed by Shilpa Rao, composed by Tanishk Bagchi and penned by Kausar Munir.
Imitation can be flattering, but not when it means tearing apart a classic by a legend. Please show some respect for Reshma jee and the legacy she left behind. Her music deserves to be treated with the dignity it commands, not reduced to just another sordid ripoff. pic.twitter.com/aNBLHIjGvB— Adnan Siddiqui (@adnanactor) October 20, 2024
Sharing his views, Adnan wrote, “Imitation can be flattering, but not when it means tearing apart a classic by a legend. Please show some respect for Reshma Jee and the legacy she left behind. Her music deserves to be treated with the dignity it commands, not reduced to just another sordid ripoff.”
Some users on social media have agreed with Adnan’s point of view. Taking to X, a user wrote, “Thank you for saying this. What an obscene way to honour the legend that Reshma Ji is. Just the audacity makes me puke. Thank you .” Another added, “Music will never be heard by those who are not dancing.”
Late Pakistani singer Reshma is remembered for several memorable songs that have been used in Indian films. These include songs such as ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’, ‘Hai O Rabba Nahin Lagda Dil Mera’, and ‘Lambi Judai’.
Previously, Kriti treated her fans with a behind-the-scenes video from the recording of Akhiyaan De Kol. Kriti took to Instagram to post a video of her performing the song’s steps which she claims she didn’t rehearse at all. In the caption, she wrote, “When there’s a “hair flip” in the hook step, The “Heroine” in me wakes up!!”
Meanwhile, Do Patti marks Kriti’s debut as a producer and Shaheer Sheikh’s debut in Bollywood. Kajol will be seen playing a cop for the first time. Netflix describes the film as a puzzling investigation that leads a no-nonsense cop down a dark path involving the vicious rivalry between twin sisters and the volatile man they both love.
