Singer and actress Selena Gomez recently got candid about her inability to carry children, but instead of letting it bring her down, she’s embracing her vulnerability. In a viral clip circulating on X, Gomez made it clear that asking for help isn’t something to be ashamed of. “Telling people when you need help or when you want help — that is not shameful,” she said during a Women in Film event. The 23-year-old star added, “So yeah, I shared that I can’t carry a child. Yeah, I shared that I have bipolar. F–k off. That’s what my life is. That’s who I am.”
She further said, “That’s why I like to be honest. Because everyone is going through something. I don’t have it all put together. I’m not a, you know, whatever. I am me and that’s all I can be.”
While speaking, she also had some powerful advice for her younger sister, Gracie and the rest of the attendees at the event: “Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you’re not a good person.”
“Screw anyone who tells you you’re a victim. You’re a survivor in my book,” she added.

Earlier this month, Gomez had opened up in an interview with Vanity Fair, where she shared that adoption and surrogacy are both “huge possibilities” for her. She explained that due to her medical issues, carrying a child would be risky for both her and the baby. “That was something I had to grieve for a while. It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone,” she admitted.
Gomez is grateful for alternative ways to become a mother. “I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different,” she told the magazine.
Beyond her fertility struggles, Gomez has always been open about her health battles, from her lupus diagnosis to her mental health. She first revealed her bipolar diagnosis in 2020, telling Elle the following year that it felt like “a huge weight lifted off” once she knew what she was dealing with.
Selena Gomez’s mental health journey was documented in her Apple TV+ series My Mind & Me, reportedly filmed over six years.
