The road to attaining fitness goals is a challenging one. Our tight work schedules and a fast-paced life where we hardly get any time for ourselves often pose a hindrance to fitness goals. Apart from it, unverifiable information available today on the internet can also divert us from our goals.

To avoid making these mistakes, celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar gave some advice in a three-part series on Instagram. She detailed the mistakes, we make during our weight loss journey. Check it out:

In the first video, she pointed out:

  • Don’t judge your journey by your past experiences or those of others; instead, take pleasure in the process. Ensure that you lose weight in a comprehensive and healthy way.
  • You need to stop putting yourself to blame if you do not get the desired results.
  • People normally do not think beyond shedding a few kilos. They ought to keep track of other aspects that also concern their health.

The second part of her video emphasises the following:

  • People tend to set time limits to their weight loss goals and one could not go any wrong. Be it a new workout regime or a new diet, the body takes about 12 weeks to fully adapt to any change and you need to give it that time. Diwekar advocates for healthy weight loss that is beneficial for the long term.
  • While exercising is certainly the key to losing weight and getting stronger, going overboard has detrimental effects on the body. Apart from your muscles getting too sore for proper recovery, your mood, your sleep cycle and mental health, in general, get affected.
  • The health expert also emphasised the importance of sleep which helps in the weight loss journey. Many studies and research have pointed to a positive correlation between good sleep and healthy body weight.

The last part of the video sheds light on the following:

  • Avoid emulating social media influencers or diet trends, instead, adhere to tried-and-true conventional advice that has been followed for years.
  • We have an affinity for validation from peers regarding everything. Don’t wait for people to acknowledge your accomplishments. Even if no one else observes the changes in you, you will know best when you start achieving your fitness goals.
  • It is not necessary to limit your quantities every day because doing so can backfire and cause you to crave unhealthy foods. Follow the three “S" while eating: “sit and eat," “eat your meal slowly," “follow your senses," and “be mindful as you eat".
