The celebrated designer’s easy-breezy collection was presented against the larger-than-life Fountain of Joy, at the Jio World Centre on October 11th in Mumbai

Everything is AK-OK is an emotion that resonated with every member in the audience, who witnessed an evening of good vibes and good energy. Celebrated fashion designer Anamika Khanna brought her AK-OK vibe to the opening show of FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week, with a collection of easy breezy silhouettes.

Anamika Khanna who is known for her couture and artisanal work, brings an easy vibe in AK-OK. From draped dresses to pajama sets, the collection featured innovative ways of draping with a splash of colours on fluid silhouettes. The collection consisted of white cottons, prints in silk, and handmade shiboris, with the peeping in of pieces of denim occasionally. The use of 3D floral shapes, fluidity in tailoring, hints of yellows, reds, blacks, indigo and emerald in the collection makes it a perfect mood board for revelries.

Calling it a vibe, which can be part of everyone’s wardrobe irrespective of their age, Anamika says, “Anamika Khanna is more craft, couture, and artisanal. Whereas AK-OK is younger, more ready to wear, the boys [Vishesh Khanna and Viraj Khanna] are involved. The energy is different. It is a lifestyle now; it is not about age. Even people who are 60-70 are wearing these clothes and so are the ones who are 17-18. It is about this vibe; it is about this energy. And not about how old you are.”

Each piece of creativity was presented with a hint of drama. The inclusion of mogra flowers in the styling added a desi touch to the contemporary western silhouettes. When asked Anamika the significance of the mogra flowers in the presentation, she says, “AK-Ok comes from India, even though we have spread our wings to the outside of here. But at the same time, I don’t want to forget where I am from. So, every time we make a collection, or we are looking for a story we think ‘what is Indian about it’, why are we doing this. Whether it is styling, whether it is the clothes, I do consciously try to bring in that Indian element.”

The show was high on fashion, energy, and music. Hosted at Jio World Centre in Mumbai, the state-of-the-art presentation saw models walk alongside the surreal Fountain of Joy in creations designed by Anamika’s ready to wear label AK-OK. The highlight of the showcase was the musical fountain which was in sync with the upbeat music performed by talented artist Ambika Nayak aka Kayana.

The fashion show was attended by celebrities including Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor, Manish Malhotra, Patralekha, Nehap Dhupia and Angad Bedi among others.
