Bangalore Metro: Services On Green Line Disrupted Due To Technical Glitch
Technical glitch halts Bengaluru Green Line metro, leaving commuters stranded. BMRCL scrambles to restore services as passengers face chaos.

On October 3, a technical malfunction at the Rajajinagar Metro station in Bengaluru created substantial inconvenience for many commuters travelling on the Green Line.

This incident prompted the suspension of train services between Yeshwanthpur station and Mantri Square-Sampige Road station, leaving passengers stranded at Yeshwanthpur.

To address the inconvenience caused, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Namma Metro commuters may kindly note. Train services on Green line will be available between Nagasandra to Yeshwanthpur and Mantri Square – Sampige Road to Silk Institute Metro stations due to a technical snag at Rajajinagar Metro Station . Inconvenience caused is regretted.”

BMRCL’s Chief Public Relations Officer, BL Yashwanth Chavan, told Money Control that an emergency recovery road-rail vehicle experienced a breakdown between Rajajinagar and Mahakavi Kuvempu Road Metro stations, causing disruptions to train services. These specialised vehicles are typically employed for the retrieval of damaged trains and maintenance tasks.

“Efforts are underway to remove the vehicle and restore train services. We are now carrying out single-line operations with reduced frequency on the affected section. Operations on other sections of the Green Line and the Purple Line (Byappanahalli-Kengeri and Whitefield-KR Pura) are normal,” he said.

Many passengers encountered inconvenience as Green Line stations, including Yeshwanthpur, experienced substantial overcrowding due to the service disruption. Some of them shared their experiences on X.

A user wrote, “I got into the metro at Jalahalli. I got a token issued for RV road as I had to travel to Ecity. But metro is stuck near Rajajinagar on line towards majestic. They are shifting all passengers to other platform at yeshwantpur metro where a metro from ypr to majestic but every half an hour.”

Another tweeted, “Namma metro service technical issues..Today …daily we are traveling but today no information and suddenly train stopped at Nagasandra to yeshwantpur…but my traveling is Nagasandra to indiranagar.”

“This is pathetic. No information at the entrance of stations about interruption, your security team I not sensitized to announce that manually during the security check either. It is a surprise when you reach the platform,” shared a viewer.

While BMRCL is implementing single-line operations between Yeshwanthpur and Mantri Square Sampige Road metro stations to minimize passenger inconvenience, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has increased the number of buses operating between Yeshwanthpur Metro station and Majestic to assist commuters during the disruptions on the Green line.
