New Delhi: The battle for Varanasi is being fought even on Twitter. The BJP, Congress and AAP leaders and workers from across India to curious, independent observers and 'citizen journalists' have been tweeting non-stop from Ground Zero on what they have seen, heard and experienced in the holy city.
Leaders and supporters of BJP, Congress and AAP are taking potshots at each other by tweeting. Saba Naqvi, senior journalist and a critic of Narendra Modi is tweeting that Rahul Gandhi has no support from the Muslims and most of them are backing Arvind Kejriwal of AAP.
However a pro-Congress twitter handle With Congress is attacking Modi and BJP's 'development' mantra. Senior BJP leader and one of its most famous Muslim face Muktar Abbas Naqvi is describing Rahul Gandhi's road show as a 'farewell' show.
Well known author Advaita Kala who is camping in Varanasi is also tweeting on the last day campaign. She is tweeting on the campaigning of BJP, Congress and AAP. Veteran international journalist and writer Jason Burke calls it an unholy battle for Varanasi in one of tweets. However he admits that the final day of campaigning is astonishing.
The AAP leader and former journalist Ashutosh, who has been camping in Varanasi has taken the battle to twitter. He claims that Kejriwal is winning the war with Modi. One of the strongest backers of Modi and a right wing journalist Swapan Dasgupta tweets that a candidate has hired 'volunteers' to flaunt his election symbol at prominent crossings in the holy city.
A strong critic of Modi and former Tehelka journalist Rana Ayyub tweets that all three road shows - Modi, Rahul and Kejriwal got a massive response in Varanasi. Well known journalist and analyst Pranay Gupte has also been tweeting from Varanasi on the campaign and the mood.
Tweets from Varanasi claim that all three major players BJP, Congress and AAP have got good response to their road shows. They have also started an aggressive hash tag war.
The BJP supporters have a hash tag #NaMoWinsVaranasi, the Kejriwal backers have #AAPWaveInKashi and the Congress has a hash tag #KashiKiRaiAjaiRai.
