New Delhi: While the Congress had gone to the extent of saying that the movie Slumdog Millionaire's eight Oscar sweep was thanks to the UPA's secular outlook, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said he didn't mind crediting the Congress party for the Slumdog... Oscars, though he said this with a twist.
"Because of Congress rule we have slums. Because of slums we have a movie on it. And as a result we have awards. So the credit for the Oscars goes to the Congress," Modi said.
The Congress had lost no time in taking credit for Slumdog...'s success at the Academy Awards.
The Government has given itself credit for the "conducive atmosphere" that's contributing to an "achieving India".
Slumdog Millionaire, directed and produced by foreigners has brought Oscars for showcasing India's poverty and exposing Mumbai's dirty underbelly.
Music composer A R Rehman and sound mixer Resul Pookutty got the top honours at the Academy Awards ceremony.
