Google begins testing logins without passwords
The new login process is helpful for those who have their phones nearby or have difficult passwords to type in and could also protect against phishing.

New Delhi: In a bid to make the login process more secure than before, this year Google introduced two window login process, in which one needs to only type in the Google ID on one page and the password on the following page. Now, it seems the search giant has moved a step ahead and started testing its new login process that lets one login their Google account without a password.

Maintaining and remembering passwords could be tough, so the new password-free login procedure does away with the need of typing in the complex combination of characters altogether. All one needs to do is type in the ID on the login page and your synced smartphone would ask you if you are trying to sign in from the particular device. Tap 'Yes' and voila! you are in.

Noticed first by a Reddit user Rohit Paul, who reportedly received an invitation to test the procedure, the new login process is helpful for those who have their phones nearby or have difficult passwords to type in and could also protect against phishing.

The feature is currently under beta and as Google tells TechCrunch, testers have the option to also use the typed password if they choose to. Additionally, Google may ask for a user's password as an additional security measure if any unusual behaviour is traced in terms of your login attempt.

Early testers could also turn off the new sign in process at any time.

What's your reaction?
