New Delhi: Xiaomi has launched its much-awaited Redmi Note 3 smartphone in India. The newest in the Redmi Note series, the Note 3 is the first Redmi phone to come with a metal body.
The phone comes in two variants - 16 GB (with 2 GB RAM) at Rs 9,999 and 32 GB (with 3 GB RAM) at Rs 11,999. The phone will be available exclusively on Amazon India and Mi.com starting 2 PM on March 9 and will available on other online and offline stores soon after.
Unveiled first to the world in November last year, the Redmi Note 3 was initially launched with a MediaTek processor, but the one that has been introduced in India is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 hexa-core processor (two 1.8GHz ARM Cortex A72 + four 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A53).
Measuring 150 x 76 x 8.65 mm and weighing 164 grams, the phone doesn't feel heavy in hands and is even lighter than the competing LeEco Le 1s.
One of the key highlights of this budget phone is the ability to unlock the phone with a fingerprint, a feature that is still not common on phones in this price segment.
Other key specifications of the phone include a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080 x 1920) IPS display, 16 megapixel f/2.0 rear camera with two-tone dual-LED flash, and a 5 megapixel f/2.0 front camera. The phone which comes in two storage variants, also has a slot for microSD card for additional storage.
The 4G-enabled dual-SIM phone features a hybrid dual-SIM tray, which means you can either use two SIM cards at once or one SIM or a microSD card.
The Redmi Note 3 also includes an infrared blaster, which means that it can also be used as an universal remote control.
The Redmi Note 3 is the successor to the Redmi Note 2, which skipped the Indian markets.
The third-gen Redmi Note will compete with the likes of the LeEco Le 1s, Lenovo K4 Note, Asus ZenFone 2, and the Moto G (3rd generation).
The phone will come in three colours - silver, gold and dark grey and is the third Xiaomi phone to be made in India.
Xiaomi last month unveiled the flagship Mi 5 smartphone at MWC 2015. The company is yet to announce its pricing and availability details for the India market.
The company also announced the availability of the Mi Bluetooth speaker in India at Rs 1,999. And it will go on sale around Holi.
