Cyber security firm, Symantec, has introduced a new solution to help carmakers protect connected vehicles against zero-day attacks.
The Symantec Anomaly Detection for Automotive is an IoT solution for manufacturers and uses machine learning to provide in-vehicle security analytics. It monitors all Controller Area Network (CAN) bus traffic without disrupting vehicle operations, learn what normal behavior is and flag anomalous activity that may indicate an attack.
The IoT solution learns the vehicle's behaviour enabling automakers to see previously unseen attacks. It prioritises incidents based on perceived criticality and risk, automatically detects anomalies without requiring policies or rules to be set by the manufacturer, and lastly, consumes minimal memory and CPU power.
Symantec recently announced that it is securing over a billion IoT devices, from cars to smart meters and industrial control systems. The Anomaly Detection for Automotive is the company's fourth solution for connected automobiles.
Connected cars offer drivers conveniences like easy navigation, remote roadside assistance and also mobile internet hot spots. Gartner predicts that over 220 million connected cars will hit the road in 2020.
The Symantec Anomaly Detection for Automotive is now available in most markets worldwide.
